I did the Bolton Abbey Ultra last week in rather challenging weather: 33 miles on a hilly (542m ascent) and at times very muddy course! The scenery is spectacular and the route varied and interesting, despite being a lapped course. Unfortunately the lapped course also means you have to face the very exposed and soggy loop down to Bolton Bridge 3 times, but once that's completed for the 3rd time you are on the home run. I was very happy to finish in 6 hr 28, 3rd lady and 16th overall (out of 22). Although the Ultra field is small, there are many other races on the same day, from fun run, 10k, half marathon through to marathon. I would thoroughly recommend it and am keen to return on a day when the weather is more forgiving to enjoy the views at their best.
